How do you/will you build community to support your intellectual and career interests and your physical, social, and emotional well-being?
Community is an ancient and well rehearsed function of human lives. I play my part in it by revising my standing and roles within this play by addressing my needs and available connections. After substantiating these two initial areas, I pursue the relevant interactions and persons that are available with my skills to advance the development of a strong relationship between myself and various other agents. The resulting actions that result can fill needs of social and physical well being, while emotional, intellectual and professional needs can be met with the relationships themselves.
First, one must know themselves, this can be approached with ideas within Morril's writing on the nature and development of personal values (Morril, P.167). Once established, one can then take time to extend the composition of each value and the relation it has to our interactions in life. What actions and ideas are part of or are composed of such values, and where is it easily available or rather pursued? I myself than take the time to see what is available immediately; on the internet, within my collection of books, with those I am already connected to, and to what I already know.
If one cannot find sufficient ends within these areas or their own. That is where you must go out into the wide world, and make new connections, and steel themselves for our new aspect. Pursuit, or in other terms, initiative. Having the capability to create or follow events and take advantage of such things with your own actions. This is basically the premise of the difference between the college student and high school student in Gordon's writing on developing (Gordon, P. 176). Once one has found sufficient agents, one must simply reiterate these actions in different contexts in relation to one's own value system. There one then arrives to the ideas community, and self determination.
You can't always use the same skill set, and eventually you'll have to improve, and then that eventually becomes a need. You can follows the same tactics, and as long-as one has initiative, one can improve, learning and making one's self far better (Arnaud, P.161)(Jones Sears, P. 31).
Though getting carried away or losing sight of one's values and needs is a problem that happens often for many people. And if one ever reaches such a point, it is not shameful nor degrading. It was simply a mistake and most often it is a good sign of the capabilities of the person to care about something. Balancing our needs and others is an integral skill after one has established connections, and If one abandons such ideas one is most probably to feeling vast amounts of not only loss and depression, but also in loneliness and a lack of respect for one's self. Newman wrote on loneliness, it ever present attitude, how easily it seeps into our lives while we interact with most of the world but also to tactics and actions to combat such feelings. They are tools to consider once one has established their needs and connections, as many are within the reach of loneliness (Newman, P.72). Reiterate these methods and ideas, as they are integral to almost very interactions you will come across.
